A Story of Hope: Life after Loss

A willingness to embrace life despite its painful realities.

I first met this incredibly kind, gentle, and grounded couple when they came to me for their maternity session in 2024.

We spent a beautiful golden hour together at Burnaby Lake,. It was one of those peaceful evenings with their dog that felt full of possibility.

About a year later, Patrick reached out to tell me they were expecting again and wanted to document another maternity journey.

Along with their exciting news, they shared the heartbreaking loss of their daughter, Roisin (“little Rose” in Irish), who was stillborn.

As devastating as their story is, what stayed with me most was their remarkable courage. Despite unimaginable grief, they opened their hearts to parenthood again. Reminding me, reminding us of life after loss.

Their second maternity session with baby Rori was nothing short of magical. The warm evening light seemed to reflect the quiet joy, grief and resilience they carried; God's light was shining upon them. (scroll to continue...)

Their story is a reminder that grief and hope can exist together. And that sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is choose to keep living, keep loving, and know that love does not end with loss.
