Celebrating Sonica and Melliah - Rochelle Elise Photography - Family Photography Vancouver

As a studio specializing in Family Photography in Vancouver, I have learned that it’s not just about capturing moments—it's about witnessing the growth and transformation of the people who step in front of my lens.

For the past seven years, I’ve had the honor of working with Sonica and Melliah through many photoshoots from baby Melliah to a confident 7-year-old! (Make sure you scroll all the way to the end of the post to see Melliah over the years and how she's grown!). From the first time we worked together I could tell Sonica was a kindred spirit. A strong creative woman running her own dance studio. I used to run a musical theatre arts academy so we clicked immediately. From our very first shoot, she was a true collaborator, bringing her ideas, her warmth, and her energy to each session.

This most recent shoot felt like a celebration —the culmination of years of hard work, determination, and love. There’s something so powerful about being able to witness someone’s growth, especially when you’ve been a small part of their journey. And the way Sonica and Melliah posed together in our last session (like twin models) felt like a perfect reflection of their relationship—strong, vibrant, and fun!

It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do. It’s not just about snapping a picture; it’s about capturing the essence of who people are, where they’ve been, and where they’re going. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to witness and document Sonica and Melliah’s journey over the years, and I can’t wait to see what comes next for them.
